Operating Millage Proposal

The District is asking voters for a 1.0 mill cushion to offset future reductions in the 18 mills levied on non-homestead properties.

On 11/8/22, the District has a proposal on the ballot asking voters for 1.0 mill to restore the 18.0 mills levied on non-homestead properties.  School districts in Michigan can never levy more than 18.0 mills on non-homestead properties for operational purposes.  Due to property values within our school district boundaries increasing greater than the rate of inflation, the Headlee Amendment reduced the authorized 18 mills. In 2022, the 18.0 mills was reduced to 17.736 mills resulting in a $56,000 loss in funding.  If approved, this 1.0 mill would provide a cushion against future reductions in the 18.0 mill levy on non-homestead properties which include industrial, commercial, business, rental and vacation homes.  If you rent or own a primary residence, this proposal will NOT affect your property taxes.  Please contact Shelly Meeder at smeeder@mancelonaschools.org for additional information.
