A Schools of Choice Family’s Perspective

WE are ALL IN for Mancelona Schools!

Schools of Choice allowed us to make the right decision for our family. We bet on
Mancelona and we won!

Our family has been living about nine miles north of town since 2004. When we moved
from Sparr (northeast of Gaylord) to live at the hatchery, the decision was made, for a
variety of reasons, to continue in Gaylord schools. As time passed we met more and
more people in the Mancelona community. Making friends and buildings relationships
came naturally in this small town. All the while, folks encouraged us to consider bringing
our kids to Mancelona Schools. The great experiences and conversations with these
people was one of the biggest factors in our decision to enroll.

Our family is close and we have high standards and expectations for our kids. When
we visited the schools and met with Laura Powers and Joe Clark that sealed the deal
for us. Janet and I walked out feeling that we heard exactly what we wanted to hear.
With an eye toward discipline, scholarship and good character Mancelona Schools has
proven to be Strong on Kids and Strong on Education for us.

A school is just a building; it’s what is inside that building that makes the school. At
Mancelona there is a lot of pride, loyalty and community spirit. You want to be involved
because you just don’t want to miss any of the “good stuff” happening there. We know
that long after the kids are gone we will want to be involved in some way.

Whether it be the classes, the staff, the after school activities or the sports, WE are ALL
in for Mancelona Schools. GO IRONMEN!

The Smigielski Family

In the fall of 2000 we chose to send our four children to Mancelona Public School.  We were looking for a school that could see our children as individuals and would not merely label them.  Our daughter needed some extra help with reading, and my son wasn’t one to always follow the rules.  In Mancelona we found teachers who cared and called when my daughter was not doing well, and staff that worked with us to get our son on track.  We found a community that truly cares about their students and is willing to stand up for them.  Moving our students to Mancelona was a very good choice for our family.
