Principal's Message - September 2010

Welcome to Mancelona Middle School 2010-2011

It is with enthusiasm and confidence that we begin another exciting year here at
Mancelona Middle School. Mancelona has a long and important history that makes it a special place in grow and raise a family. This year we hope to build on that strong tradition to help our middle school students excel and to create stronger bonds with our families and the community. For the last two years our middle school has received the State of Michigan’s highest rating on its annual report card; we were rated an “A” school and have met all requirements for our annual yearly progress.  This is a fantastic accomplishment and one that is the result of the dedication and hard work from our students and their families – Thank You!

Our academic program is built around the needs of our students. Based on test scores, grades, and school assessments, students will be provided the instruction that will help them to succeed.  This might involve more instructional time during the school day, after and before school tutoring, learning center assistance, mentoring and academic challenges. Our goal is to build an academic program that is both rigorous and rewarding. We realize that we cannot be successful unless we provide a safe and positive learning environment for our students.  At the middle school level, it is especially important that children feel good about their school.  This year we will be implementing several new motivational strategies to meet this need.

1.

All students will receive training in social-skills building.

2.

All students will have access to a new Academic & Behavior Intervention Center.

3.

All students who demonstrate exceptional behavior will be recognized and rewarded.

4.

All students with appropriate behavior will be rewarded with the following:

    1. Special lunchtime activities including an extended lunch with the Principal
    2. Caught Red Handed rewards
    3. Student(s) of the Month recognition
    4. Extra privileges for individual students as well as for entire grade levels
    5. Exciting individual classroom and grade level rewards

But most importantly, we need the help of our parents.  Our commitment is to keep you well-informed about our school and about your child.  We need you to help us enforce the student handbook, to get kids to school every day and on time, to keep your teachers informed of situations that may have an impact on school performance. Parents and guardians are the foundation of all great schools.  Thank you so much for being a part of our school family.  Remember, you can call on me at any time with questions, concerns, or suggestions.

Go Ironmen!

Respectfully,

Chad Culver
