Principals Message - October 2008
I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all of the families who have entrusted their children to Mancelona Public Schools. This year has gotten off to a tremendous start. The halls are filling up with student work, the classrooms are teaming with polite and courteous conversation and the lunch room is even a good place to hang out with your friends. I am very pleased with the level of support the middle school is receiving from the community, families and students. Sometimes it just gets overlooked how wonderful and dedicated you all really are when it comes to your children. This is the place to be if you are interested in Teaching and Learning! I would like to point out a couple of important aspects of the school year so far: SCHOOL ATTENDANCE As the year is now well underway, I would like to address a very important topic! School attendance is one of the leading indicators of student success. The more often a child is on time and in school the higher the likelihood of academic, social and emotional success. Please do not overlook this very important part of school. If you and your child are always on time and in school – take a moment and congratulate yourselves! If you know that there have been days when you’re tired and just don’t want to get up and get to work or school - and so you call in sick – just know that you may have lost something that can not be retrieved. So, let’s all do our part and come to school each and every day. WEATHER CONDITIONS The weather is quickly changing and it will become very wet and cold outside. Please take the time now to talk to your child about appropriate dress for the conditions. The doors will open at 7:45am. Students will either report directly to the cafeteria for breakfast or they will need to remain in their designated area until 8:00am. At this time all students will be allowed to go to their respective gymnasiums. PLEASE do not allow your child to walk to school too early. It will start a bad habit of getting here too early and having to wait outside until 7:45am. CONSTITUTION DAY Constitution Day was an exciting success! All students in the district participated in some sort of activity to recognize the contributions of the founding fathers and the importance of the document they created. One of the goals for the day was to create a base of Constitutional knowledge with each student that they can keep with them for the rest of their lives. TONE OF DECENCY Finally, I would like to acknowledge that the students of Mancelona Middle School are doing their part to continue down the path of doing right and good! Students are walking down the halls in a mannerly fashion, they are talking to their peers in a polite way and they are laughing and having a genuinely enjoyable time in school! I listen to them in the cafeteria, in the library and everywhere they find themselves throughout the day. I am truly impressed with what I hear and see. Thank you students for being the sorts of people that others like to be around! YOU ARE THE BEST,
Mr. Culver, Principal
