Principal's Message - December 2008

Dear Community,

Can you believe the recent change in the weather! While I love the snow and the winter season, I could sure use a little more sunshine.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who participated in our recent Parent/Teacher Conference.  I have heard many inspiring stories regarding conversations that took place among those in attendance.  Also, thanks for taking time to fill out the Parent Surveys.  These will serve to help us in our decision-making with regards to improving our school and its offerings to students.

The survey consisted of five major categories:  Communication, Instructional Program, Parent/Community Involvement, Staff and School Safety & Environment.

Following is some of what we were told through the surveys:

 COMMUNICTION

Over 80% of those surveyed felt that communication to and from the school is effective.

Over 90% of those surveyed felt proud of their Middle School.

 INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM

Almost 90% of those surveyed felt that their child is receiving a quality education.

Over 90% felt as though our athletic teams are a source of pride for our community.

PARENT/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Over 90% agree that they are comfortable and encouraged to participate within the Middle School.

Over 85% support the Choose Success program and feel it is beneficial to the district.

STAFF

Over 95% agree that the staff provides an appropriate and appreciated education for their students.

Over 80% felt that the staff truly cares about the students of the school and community.

SCHOOL SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

Almost 100% of you agreed that the school is a safe and orderly environment!

Over 90% agreed that your child enjoys coming to school!

Again, these results are proof that the Middle School is doing a good job and that YOU feel as though Mancelona Public Schools is the right place for your children to receive their education!  We have so much more that we can look to as a point of pride; I am very proud to be part of such a community and know that as we move forward the students of this district will continue to benefit from your support.

My door is always open and I encourage all of you to share your thoughts and ideas as the year moves onward.  Please call the office if you would like to meet to discuss your ideas.

Thank you,

Chad Culver, Principal
